Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker: Matt Smith Connected to Death Star Scenes?

There have recently been conflicting reports on Matt Smith's involvement with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker with some sites saying he's not in the film and some saying he still is. According to Making Star Wars, Smith is definitely still in the movie, and his character may have something to do with the remnants of the Death Star that we see in the teaser.

According to MSW, Smith is connected to the scene where Rey and the others walk up to a shore and we see what's left of the (possibly second) Death Star. We don't really know what Smith does in that scene, but it's said that he is definitely not a Knight of Ren or their leader.

Smith's connection to the Death Star is interesting, seeing that rumors have been going around even before the Emperor reveal that he was playing a young Palpatine. While Ian McDiarmid may be back reprising the Emperor role, I'm sure they would need a whole new actor to play a younger version of the character. Then again, nothing official has been confirmed at all, and Smith could be playing someone completely new.

The way I see it, if the movie is going to hide Smith's involvement, he could very well be playing a returning legacy character; just like what happened with Frank Oz and Yoda for The Last Jedi. Of course, this is all just speculation on my part, but MSW has been a very trusty source, and if they say that Smith is involved, he very well could be.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see to find out.
