Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Gives Us Our First Look At Mark Hamill’s Fiery Return

Star Wars fans are in for a treat today. Vanity Fair just recently released some exclusive new photos taken from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and thanks to the publication we get our first official look at Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX.

Sure, Luke might have died after sacrificing his life to save the Resistance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but Lucasfilm confirmed that the studio plans to bring the Jedi Master back in the third and final sequel trilogy installment. Though it's unlikely that the studio is going to bring Luke back from the dead, we're expecting to see the Star Wars legend appear in a few flashback sequences (or possibly in a few Force visions for Rey).

In the newly-released The Rise of Skywalker picture, we get to see Luke standing alongside R2-DW in front of a burning back drop. We're not quite sure whether this location is the school that Ben Solo (Adam Driver) burnt down when he finally turned to the Dark Side, or whether this is another location in Luke's past. Most likely the latter – after all, Luke is dressed differently in this new image from The Rise of Skywalker.

There's a lot riding on J.J. Abrams' next Star Wars film. Not only is The Rise of Skywalker the final film in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy, but it's also the final film in the Skywalker saga. We're hoping that it closes with a bang.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
