Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Gets Lower CinemaScore Rating than Prequels

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might have failed to please critics with reviews being generally mixed-negative, however, the film has seemingly gathered the support of fans with the film enjoying an 86% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Those who loved The Rise of Skywalker have taken the film's positive Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes as a consolation to all the film's negative critic reviews. However, the film's rating on CinemaScore may reveal another blow against the third and final film in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy.

CinemaScore is a movie research company that takes time to measure audience responses to films in order to create reports and to forecast how well a movie will do at the box office. It polls moviegoers in cinemas throught North America, asking audiences to answer a survey consisting of six questions which are all on a scale of A to F. Using the results of the poll, the company provides letter grades to movies based on the response of the viewers.

Star Wars films usually take in an A+ or A- score on the site. However, results on CinemaScore reveal that The Rise of Skywalker didn't do as well as the rest of the Star Wars movies listed on the site. Episode IX only received a B+.

That might not seem like much of a fall from an A, but the only Star Wars entry to receive a B score from the site was The Clone Wars.

Here are a list of CinemaScores for different Star Wars movies (except those in the original trilogy because the company didn't get to poll the early Star Wars movies at the time).

The Phantom Menace --- A-
Attack of the Clones --- A-
Revenge of the Sith --- A-
The Force Awakens --- A
The Last Jedi --- A
The Rise of Skywalker --- B+
Rogue One --- A
Solo --- A-
The Clone Wars --- B-

CinemaScore's result is interesting. While it differs from the score that fans have given on Rotten Tomatoes, readers ought to know that the company gives the general audience response to movies. It doesn't really accurately depict the entire fanbase's reaction to the film. Art is subjective, so at the end of the day, whether you enjoy Episode IX or not, it's all up to you.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
