Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Allegedly Recast Leia With New Actress

When Carrie Fisher passed away in December 2016, fans demanded that Disney refrain from using the Star Wars legend's image to digitally recreate Leia saying that this was one of the best ways to honor and respect the actress' legacy in the franchise.

Not only did Lucasfilm promise to keep from digitally recreating Fisher, but the studio also swore that they'd only be using unused Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi footage to complete the film that was supposed to center around Leia – Star Wars: Episode IX.

Despite these promises, word on the street says that Lucasfilm may have actually cast a stand-in for Fisher in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. According to Cinema Blend, a new rumor says that the studio may have brought in Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billie Lord, to play as a stand-in for her mother in the final chapter of the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Not only is Billie Lourd facially similar to her mother, but she's also familiar with the franchise, playing Lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix in the past two films of the Skywalker saga. Lourd was allegedly brought in to stand-in for her mother for Leia in scenes that were brought to life with computer-generated graphics.

Could Lucasfilm really have broken its word? It would make sense to have Lourd brought in, especially if the studio lacked footage that it could use for The Rise of Skywalker. Let's just hope that if the rumors are true, the studio created these scenes with Lourd gracefully.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
