Star Wars: The Mandalorian's Deborah Chow Reveals Inspiration Behind Epic Baby Yoda Battle

If you tuned in for this week's episode of The Mandalorian, there's a huge chance that you were blown away by the epic battle that took place after Mando made the biggest decision of his career. Not surprisingly, director Deborah Chow has revealed that the amazing battle sequence was inspired by two different action films.

Chow recently spoke about Chapter 3: The Sin on the Still Watching podcast where she admitted that the reaction to her episode has been a complete surprise (via Vanity Fair).

"I woke up to many, many texts and emails about it, and it's sort of like, ‘How did everyone watch it so early in the morning?'" Chow said. "It's definitely unexpected, and I'm really happy for the show."

But how did Chow come up with the amazing fight between bounty hunters and Mandalorians? The Jessica Jones director said she was inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo. In addition to that, her own father's love for action films helped her along the way.

"My dad was Chinese, and he was a huge movie fan, when I grew up he was watching Hong Kong action films. So it kind of gets that reference," Chow said.

Not surprisingly, the whole baby rescue was inspired by a John Woo flick.

"I tried to bring out a little Hard Boiled with the baby. It was kind of an amazing thing because it was like coming back to classic cinema and filmmaking. So there's definitely a lot of my dad in that episode," Chow admitted. "Sadly he didn't get to see this. But he would be very proud. He would probably also be in shock."

We're certainly loving what Chow has done with Chapter 3 and we're already looking forward to what she is going to do for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

The third episode of The Mandalorian is now streaming on Disney+.
