Star Wars: The Mandalorian Might Set Moff Gideon up as New Darth Vader

There is little doubt that Moff Gideon will continue to play a huge role in The Mandalorian Season 2. But what exactly is the Star Wars villain planning to do with Baby Yoda? A new theory suggests that Giancarlo Esposito's character is aiming to be the next Darth Vader.

The theory comes from Screenrant, which points out that there are two possible reasons why Gideon could eventually become the new Vader. First, there is Gideon's unrelenting desire to get his hands on Baby Yoda. Although his intentions have never been revealed (although we're pretty sure that they aren't good), it is suggested that Gideon is trying to get the Child's midichlorians so he can enhance his own Force sensitivity.

But does this mean that Gideon isn't Force-sensitive? One major clue from the final episode of The Mandalorian Season 1 suggests the opposite. In the last few minutes of Chapter 8: Redemption, Gideon is shown slashing his way out of the destroyed TIE Fighter with nothing less than a Darksaber. For now, it is unclear if he's good at wielding the weapon but the idea that he has it might confirm he is capable of using it to a certain extent.

It's an interesting theory since Gideon is clearly an ambitious man. However, it is important to point out that his intentions have never been made clear in the series just yet. Hopefully, we'll learn more about Gideon and his true plans later this year.

The first season of The Mandalorian is currently streaming on Disney+.
