Star Wars: The Mandalorian Is Going To Have The Same Scale As The Original Films

Star Wars: The Mandalorian just might be a live-action series meant for the launch of Disney's upcoming streaming site, Disney+, but Star Wars fans have every reason to look forward to the series. For one, it's being produced and run by Iron Man director Jon Favreau. Two, it's bringing together a string of great high-profile episode directors like Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World actress Bryce Dallas Howard, and Star Wars Rebels showrunner Dave Filoni. Three, the series is going to keep to the same scale as the Star Wars franchise's original films.

Speaking with James Cameron in a conversation meant for the Directors Guild of America, Favreau reveals that instead of focusing on spectacle, one of his objectives for The Mandalorian was to keep the scale of the series similar to that of the original films.

"Since I wrote most of [The Mandalorian], I wrote it to fit within our volume, and in trying to keep the scale of it like the first Star Wars film, which was a relatively low-budget affair, even though the effects were spectacular," Favreau shared.

Sure, the original films were low-budget, but they were still pretty impressive. In fact, most Star Wars fans usually name entries from the original trilogy as their favorite Star Wars films.

While it might be a concern for fans looking forward to big visual effects, this doesn't necessarily mean that we won't be getting unique visual components in the series – The Mandalorian, after all, is being produced by Favreau who advanced visual effects in films like The Jungle Book and Lion King.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian is set for release later this year.
