Star Wars: The Mandalorian Came to be After Attack of the Clones Took Away Boba Fett's 'Mystique'

Boba Fett may have been the inspiration behind The Mandalorian but there's an interesting reason why the character gave Jon Favreau an awesome idea for a new Star Wars series. Dave Filoni has just confirmed that the revelation of Boba's origins in Attack of the Clones made the character lose his "mystique" and led to Favreau trying to restore his mystery.

Filoni recently shared his thoughts on The Mandalorian at Deadline's virtual Contenders Television event. Interestingly, he revealed that he and Favreau always viewed Boba as a cool character due to his air of mystery. However, this changed when Boba was confirmed to be Jango Fett's unaltered clone in Attack of the Clones. According to Filoni, "some of [Boba's] mystique had been taken away" in the prequel films and Favreau aimed to somehow restore it through a completely new character.

"Jon's idea was to re-imagine that character as a straight-on bounty hunter and take that imagery of the lone gunfighter. The revelation was this idea of this child in a lone wolf cub sensibility," Filoni said.

Needless to say, many fans agreed with this idea considering that The Mandalorian is a huge hit. Although we won't be getting a Boba Fett standalone film, we now have a completely different show that features a character who is similar to the Boba that fascinated us in the original Star Wars films.

The Mandalorian Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ in October.
