Star Wars: The Last Jedi Won’t Have Any Surprise Appearances By Lando Calrissian

Star Wars: The Force Awakens might have been a nostalgia party with appearances by Han (Harrison Ford), Luke (Mark Hamill), and Leia (Carrie Fisher), but original trilogy fans hoping to see Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: The Last Jedi are bound to be disappointed.

Sitting down with Entertainment Weekly, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson decided to clear out rumors that the suave smuggler and original owner of the Millenium Falcon won't be popping up in his movie.

"No, and I don't want fans to get their hopes up. He's not in the film and it was never really something that came up. I mean, I loved that character. It would have been fun to see him, but it's just not something that ever really had a place in the story."

While it would definitely make hearts jump seeing Billy Dee Williams making a quick appearance in The Force Awakens sequel, Johnson makes a point. Sure The Last Jedi might have Finn (John Boyega) at Canto Bight, but there's so much to be done. There's going to be a lot going on in the movie with Rey (Daisy Ridley) training with Luke and there's still that issue about whether or not the Force-senstive Jakku Orphan joins Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and turns to the Dark Side. Maybe J.J. Abrams can squeeze Lando in Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas December 15, 2017.
