Star Wars The Last Jedi: Rian Johnson Teases A 'New Hue' Of Lightsaber

The Force Awakens had the classic blue and red lightsabers used during the duels, and a lot of fans are hopeful that we'll get to see more saber action in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. We know that Rey will be wielding Anakin Skywalker's old lightsaber, but it's possible that she could be wielding a different colored one by the end of the movie.

In an interview with Parade (via Star Wars News Net), Rian Johnson had made a little tease:

"Rey uses a blue lightsaber, Kylo Ren uses red. And director Johnson hints that we may see a new hue."

Some people think that this could refer to Rey making a new lightsaber of her own in the movie, or perhaps we'll see the "white" sabers like Ahsoka wields in Star Wars Rebels. Some are also thinking that this could mean Rey will be embracing her dark side and will attempt to "bleed" Anakin's lightsaber red.

Though I know that blue is the standard for "good" in Star Wars, I would be interested to see a lead character wield a red saber without fully turning to the dark side. With all the teasing of "balance", I have a feeling Luke will be teaching Rey how to embrace both light and dark of the Force.

Besides all that, I really want to see Rey make her own double-bladed lightsaber. She must be wielding the staff for a reason, right?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters Dec. 15.
