Star Wars: The Last Jedi Overtakes Rogue One At The Global Box Office

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in its third week in cinemas and it seems like the Star Wars sequel trilogy installment just continues to make waves, earning stellar reviews from critics and dominating at the box office.

Not only has The Force Awakens sequel unsurprisingly become the highest-grossing film of 2017, it's also reached another major milestone, passing the total box office earnings of Gareth Edward's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

As of today, The Last Jedi has crossed $1,056,389,228 at the global box office, moving an inch pas Rogue One's grand total of $1,056,057,273. It might not seem like much now, but the sequel trilogy installment is still at the start of its third week in cinemas, and with a few more weeks to go, it's more than likely that the film would amass even more.

The only film to gross faster than The Last Jedi is its predecessor, The Force Awakens, which earned more than $2 billion during its cinematic run. The result is pretty understandable – it had been years since Lucasfilm released a Star Wars film, and the anticipation building up over The Force Awakens' release had been rocket high.

We're yet to see whether The Last Jedi can do better than The Force Awakens, but the film's got plenty of time.
