Star Wars: The Last Jedi Director Has “Seen The Light” Thanks To Into The Spider-Verse

There's a whole lot of love for Sony Picture's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Critics have been showering the film with praise left and right even before the film's win at this year's Golden Globe Awards, and now it looks like Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has decided to join the hubbub, saying that the film's actually helped him see the light.

Taking to Twitter, the Star Wars director couldn't help but praise the animated comic book movie, declaring Spider-Verse as his favorite superhero movie of all time.

"Ok I have seen the light- Into the Spider-Verse is truly next-level stuff. I just walked out of the theater & am still buzzing but might be my new favorite superhero movie full stop," Johnson tweeted after seeing the film in cinemas.

The filmmaker also called the film the "Velvet underground of superhero movies" in a follow-up tweet, saying that he felt that Spider-Verse would influence so many other comic book movies to come, just like Velvet Underground. The band never really achieved a lot of fame during the peak of their popularity, but Velvet Underground still influenced so many other prominent bands that came after it.

Spider-Verse is likely to do the same, influencing a future generation of animators and artists keen on working on animated comic book movies. Right now, Sony is working on patenting the film's animation and art style. Hopefully, the film will generate even more animated films that break ground in the comic book genre.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider is currently screening in cinemas.
