Star Wars: The Force Awakens Concept Art Shows Off Rey's Original Home

Star Wars: The Force Awakens had one foot in the past by having the Jakku Graveyard littered with Original Triliogy vehicles, and one of them was an AT-AT which the protagonist Rey lived in. As it turns out, Rey's home was almost more dangerous and precariously placed.

This was shared by Lucasfilm executive creative director Doug Chiang:

As you can see, Rey still lives in an AT-AT, but instead of just lying in the sand, it's hanging inside of a super star destroyer. Granted I love how more outlandish this setting is, but maybe the production wanted to keep to a more practical area; it was said that they were prioritizing practical effects over CGI when they made this movie. Having Rey live somewhere like this would have to be pulled off with CGI—which the movie was trying to use minimally.

Even if we didn't have this cool concept art come to life, I think everyone was pleased with what we got in the final product. After all, we still saw Rey climbing around a broken star destroyer, and we still had that awesome chase with the Falcon and the TIE fighters.

For now, we have no idea what to expect with the upcoming Episode IX. J.J. Abrams may be on Twitter, but we've barely been getting any updates from the movie. Hopefully we get something before the year ends, but I have a feeling our first teaser reveal will come with Star Wars Celebration next year.

Catch Star Wars Episode IX in theaters Dec. 20, 2019.
