Star Wars: The Acolyte Showrunner Reveals Where the Upcoming Series Will Take Place

One of the many Star Wars live-action shows that is currently in the works is The Acolyte, the project from Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland that is expected to be set somewhere during the High Republic era. We haven't heard a lot of details regarding the upcoming series. However, it looks like more information has now emerged about the mysterious project that has been in the works for a while.

During Vanity Fair's recent profile on the Star Wars television projects, Headland shared more key details regarding The Acolyte. While she is keeping mum with the specific plot points, she did confirm that the series will be set 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace.

"A lot of those characters haven’t even been born yet. We’re taking a look at the political and personal and spiritual things that came up in a time period that we don’t know much about," she said. "My question when watching The Phantom Menace was always like, ‘Well, how did things get to this point?’ How did we get to a point where a Sith lord can infiltrate the Senate and none of the Jedi pick up on it? Like, what went wrong? What are the scenarios that led us to this moment?"

Headland also described the series as a "mystery thriller set in a prosperous and seemingly peaceful era, when the galaxy is still sleek and glistening." She called it "the Renaissance or the Age of Enlightenment" where Jedis are "not always ascetic monklike figures living selflessly and bravely."

"The Jedi uniforms are gold and white, and it’s almost like they would never get dirty. They would never be out and about," she said. "The idea is that they could have these types of uniforms because that’s how little they’re getting into skirmishes."

It is exciting to hear this new update on The Acolyte since we haven't heard a lot of details regarding the series ever since it was announced. It does make sense that it is set 100 years before The Phantom Menace since it is expected to be set in the High Republic era. This makes it the first Star Wars live-action project to be set far from any of the eras that they've tackled since it is the setting that we've never seen in the Star Wars live-action world before which makes it more exciting.
