Star Wars: Samuel L. Jackson Told Bryce Dallas Howard About His Desire to Play Mace Windu Again

One of the main characters in the Star Wars prequel trilogy is Samuel L. Jackson's Mace Windu. However, during the events of Revenge of the Sith, it seems that we might have seen the last of him in the franchise as he plummets to his death after an intense duel with Darth Sidious. Years after the character's death, there are still fans who are convinced that perhaps he might still be alive. Now, the actor behind the purple lightsaber-wielding Jedi revealed that he still has his eye on returning to play the role again.

During an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jackson was asked by host Josh Horowitz if there is still a chance for him to play Mace Windu again to which he said that he still has the desire to play the character again and revealed that he also told Bryce Dallas Howard, who directed episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, about his interest to reprise the role.

"Definitely. There’s a huge history of people with one hand returning in Star Wars," Jackson said. "The only person I’ve ever said that to about coming back was Bryce Dallas Howard, ’cause I just did a movie with her. And she directs episodes of The Mandalorian, so, ‘You think you might be able to hook a brother up? I mean you like me, right?’ She’s like, ‘I love you, you’re amazing!’ So, ‘Put me back in there… Put me in coach, I’m ready!’ You know, I’ll learn to lightsaber left-handed. Come on, hook me up."

It would be great to see Jackson play Mace Windu again. After all, while the character plummets out of the building to his eventual death, they didn't really show a body or any concrete confirmation that the character has died. Maybe the Force helped him to survive the fall. There are a lot of excuses that the filmmakers and the team at Lucasfilm can make to find a logical way to bring back the character. Given that he told Howard about it, maybe the studio will consider the idea.

However, there is no indication yet from any of the future Star Wars projects that Mace Windu will be back in the franchise anytime soon. It is likely that the character will stay dead in order to give finality to him and avoid the cheap trick of bringing him back just for nostalgia's sake. It is lovely to hear from Jackson himself that he would love to play the role again. If ever Lucasfilm wants to bring him back, at least they know that they can make a call, or perhaps Howard can be the one who will call them and make it happen.
