Star Wars: Rogue One Concept Art Features Nerfs Being Herded

There is little doubt that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story featured a lot of awesome references to the original trilogy. Interestingly, there could have been an unexpected Easter Egg that served as a little reference to one of the most memorable lines from The Empire Strikes Back. Recently revealed concept art from Rogue One has featured some nerfs being herded.

The storyboard images were shared by Matt Allsopp who had worked on Rogue One. Interestingly, screenwriter Gary Whitta retweeted the post along with some surprising details about what could have been in the film.

"That first page of storyboard panels is from my first draft, wherein Jyn led a rebel commando team to Edu (later re-spelled as Eadu), the planet where the Empire was building part of the Death Star. Yes, those are nerfs, and they were being herded!" Whitta wrote.

Star Wars fans know about nerfs although the first time we've heard about them was from Princess Leia Organa when she called Han Solo a "stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder" in The Empire Strikes Back. Seeing what they look like, it's understandable why Leia would have thought it would be a fitting insult. (They are magnificently furry beasts and they do resemble a certain Wookiee).

We didn't get to see the nerfs in Rogue One but could we possibly see these creatures in the film's spin-off series? The Cassian Andor show is currently in production but we haven't heard anything about nerfs or their herders being featured in the series. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
