Star Wars’ Rey Isn’t Satisfied by Kylo Ren’s Origin Revelation in The Rise of Skywalker

Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) might have revealed Rey's (Daisy Ridley) origin in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but fans are hoping that J.J. Abrams reveals a different parentage for the Jakku Orphan in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It looks like fans aren't the only ones left unhappy by Rey's origin because Daisy Ridley says that the Star Wars heroine isn't really satisfied with the answer that Kylo Ren gave her.

Speaking in an interview with ComicBook.com, Ridley opens up about Rey's state of mind as fans enter The Rise of Skywalker.

According to the actress, Rey still has to deal with the internal conflict that she originally had in The Last Jedi. She isn't really satisfied with what Kylo Ren told her about her parents, and so she continues to struggle with herself.

"She's been training and continuing this internal struggle; that has not gone away, it has intensified," Ridley said. "She isn't satisfied by what Kylo has told her. She's struggling with that, so we meet her mid-training and then you see it play out more in real-time, the struggles that she's having and this drive that she has to reconcile the questions that she has."

Despite her struggles, we wonder whether The Rise of Skywalker might retcon The Last Jedi's origin for the character. Ridley just recently attended the 2019 CCXP in Brazil, and according to a fan present during the event, the actress said that the "legacy Rey leaves after The Rise of Skywalker is that anyone can choose his own families."

Still, fans will be glad to hear that Rey won't be alone dealing with her problems. Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac) will be with Rey in her adventures in Episode IX, something which we can't wait to see in the new movie.

Rey is going to need as much support as she can – not only will shave to face Kylo Ren again, she'll also have to deal with the return of Emperor Palpatine.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
