Star Wars Reveals the True Origin of the Knights of Ren

The Knights of Ren have always been one of the biggest mysteries in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy. While fans were eager to learn more about the group ever since they were teased during the promotional campaign for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the film barely got to explore the group's story. Star Wars: The Last Jedi dropped the group altogether, and while they did have more action scenes in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the film barely revealed anything about the group's backstory – though previous comics and novelizations did discuss these things.

Now, the first issue of the comic book series Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren by Charles Soule and Will Sliney reveal the origin of the Knights of Ren (via Digital Spy). In the comic, readers are introduced to the first leader of the Knights of Ren. He's a man called Ren, and in the comic, he tries to recruit two brothers to join his group. The attempt goes wrong with one brother killing the other. Ren also ends up killing the survivor.

Ren tries to pacify his followers when this happens, telling his Knights that "the master" is going to find them another candidate for recruitment. We believe this candidate may very well be Kylo Ren, the wayward son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (Carrie Fisher). Unfortunately, the comic ends there when discussing the Knights of Ren. We'll have to wait for issue 2 of The Rise of Kylo Ren to learn more about the group.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is currently screening in cinemas.
