Star Wars Reveals The Origin Of The Last Jedi’s Holdo Maneuver

Divisive as it may be, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has some pretty cinematic moments, including Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo's startlingly heroic decision to use the hyperdrive on the Raddus to cut right through Snoke's massive ship, the Supremacy. It was a pretty bold move that fans haven't really seen before, and while some question the move and how it affects Star Wars canon, we couldn't help but admire the cinematic quality of exploding light in space.

Now, the latest Age of Resistance one-shot comic The Bridge gives us the origin of the Holdo Maneuver as well as a bit of insight into the Vice Admiral's tactical experience.

The Bridge is set years before the events of The Last Jedi. In the comic, we get to see Holdo smuggling arms to the Resistance on a ship called the Candor. The ship then comes under attack from a First Order warship, and we Holdo at her best.

Finding Captain Jardar dead after racing to the ship, Holdo assumes command of the Candor. The Star Destroyer has the ship in its tractor beam and pulls them up into its cargo hold. When the door opens, Holdo then orders the crew to point their ship at the Destroyer in a maneuver that seems much like suicide.

However, when they get close, Holdo commands her men to blast through the Destroyer. They then punch the ion drive and fly straight through the newly-created hold.

It's very similar to the Holdo Maneuver in The Last Jedi, though here, Holdo escapes with her ship, her men, and her life. Such a shame that Holdo won't be around for Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
