Star Wars Reportedly Won’t Be ‘Erasing’ Sequel Trilogy But Instead ‘Ignoring’ It

Earlier this month, word started running up and down the rumor mill saying that Lucasfilm has been planning to "erase" the Star Wars sequel trilogy after the divisiveness of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the poor output of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

While fans against these films eagerly took the news to heart, there are new reports saying that Lucasfilm won't be deleting the sequel trilogy films but will be ignoring the movies instead as it moves away from the Skywalker saga.

According to a report by YouTube reviewer and leaker Grace Randolph, Disney has no intention of erasing The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, from Star Wars canon. Instead, the company is going to ignore the films as they move ahead with the Star Wars franchise.

Randolph also addresses rumors that Kathleen Kennedy is going to step down from her role as the president of Lucasfilm. According to the Star Wars leaker, Kennedy won't be resigning – instead Lucasfilm will refuse to renew her contract which is set to end in 2021.

The Star Wars leaker goes on to say that Lucasfilm will be getting a new president by 2022. Star Wars: The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau and Star Wars: The Clone Wars executive producer Dave Filoni are reportedly going to be the heads of the franchise come 2022.

While this new report might generate excitement among fans, we advise readers to take Randolph's post with a large grain of salt. Lucasfilm has not announced its internal plans for the company, and it seems highly unlikely that the studio will "ignore" the Star Wars sequel trilogy, a chapter in the Skywalker saga that it has so heavily invested in.

We'll just have to wait and see what Lucasfilm has planned for the future of Star Wars.

The Skywalker saga is available for streaming on Disney+.
