2023 would have marked Star Wars' triumphant return to cinemas with Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron supposedly putting an end to the franchise's film drought. Obviously, that's not the case and while Jenkins recently confirmed that the project is still under development, we're still not sure when Lucasfilm plans to release it.

As it stands, it looks like the production company's focus is on Damon Lindelof's film which is said to take place after The Rise of Skywalker. The project, which will be helmed by Ms. Marvel's Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was previously rumored to begin filming this April but according to a new report, it may or may not happen.

On the latest episode of The Hot Mic, insider Jeff Sneider shed light on the production status of the post-Skywalker Saga film, saying he's not quite sure if the April filming start date is actually true. According to him, while there's a strong possibility that cameras will begin rolling for the project in either April or May, he thinks it will actually commence during the Summer.

Sneider also added that Lucasfilm could announce its film slate at this year's Star Wars Celebration. He shared: "I don’t know. It could be April, it could be May, but I think it’ll be shooting soon, I think it’ll be shooting by the Summer. I think we’re going to find out a lot at Star Wars Celebration. I think that’s where they’ll reveal their feature [film] plans for the next four or five years."

As per the latest reports, Lindelof and Obaid-Chinoy's Star Wars film is said to be eyeing a December 2025 release but given how Lucasfilm seems to be fast-tracking its production, there's a good chance we'll see it earlier than expected.
