Star Wars Pays Tribute To A New Hope's Most Unlikely Hero

There is little doubt that Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca (wait, Chewie didn't get one) were the heroes that deserved a medal in A New Hope. However, Star Wars has just paid tribute to the most unlikely hero who truly saved the entire galaxy.

A new post on the official Star Wars Instagram account puts the focus on R2-D2. Take a look at the image below.

"Princess Leia recruiting an unlikely hero for a top-secret mission, the moment our adventure begins," the caption reads along with the hashtags #StarWars and #ANewHope.

Well, if you think about it, none of Luke and Han's heroics would have been possible without Artoo. It was a good thing that the clever little bot decided to help Princess Leia at her time of need and made sure to deliver her message to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

There is little doubt that R2-D2 (and C-3PO) are just as important as Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie. After all, both droids have appeared in nearly every Star Wars film except for Solo: A Star Wars Story. In addition to that, Artoo and Threepio are both expected to play a major role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which is set to be the final film in the Skywalker Saga.

Anthony Daniels, who plays C-3PO yet again in The Rise of Skywalker, had previously teased on how the droid's new red eyes will be important to the ongoing storyline. "It's a magnificent piece of storytelling that really took me by surprise," Daniels said. Needless to say, we're looking forward to seeing the droids in action in Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
