Star Wars Offers Excerpt of Timothy Zahn’s Newest Thrawn Novel

Star Wars fans have a brand new excerpt from Timothy Zahn's newest Thrawn novel, Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising.

Though Disney has long since separated the Star Wars Legends from Star Wars canon, the studio has been incorporating elements from the expanded universe into the official segment of the Star Wars franchise. This includes Grand Admiral Thrawn, a Chiss Imperial military commander popular among Star Wars fans for his tactical strength and military finesse. The character was incorporated into Star Wars canon when he was introduced in the third season of Lucasfilm's hit animated series, Star Wars Rebels.

Though the series ended without properly resolving Thrawn's fate, Zahn continues to flesh out the brilliant Imperial commander in a new novel and it looks like Star Wars fans are being given the opportunity to read an excerpt of Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising for free.

IGN has a copy of the excerpt, and the passage offers a closer look at Thrawn's earlier life.

"The Chiss homeworld has just been attacked, and Thrawn and his superior Admiral Ar'lani are beginning their investigation," the publication writes as a summary for the excerpt, "This passage introduces a brand new Star Wars character named Samakro, who serves as Thrawn's first officer aboard his ship The Springhawk."

The summary is rather long, so you can check it out here.

In other Thrawn news, there's been a lot of talk about Thrawn making his way to the live-action portion of the Star Wars franchise. Not only have there been reports about Thrawn potentially appearing in Star Wars: The Mandalorian, there's also been talk about him become the main villain in a future Star Wars trilogy.

Let's see whether or not any of these rumors prove to be true.
