Star Wars Novel Teases Kylo Ren’s Path To Redemption In Episode IX

Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) might have stuck his lightsaber threw his father in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and betrayed Snoke to become the Supreme Leader of the First Order in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, however, fans expect the wayward son of Han Solo (Adam Driver) and Leia (Carrie Fisher) to find redemption in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Now, according to a report by Inverse,Episode IX tie in novel, Resistance Reborn, may very well be teasing Ben Solo's redemption. Chronicling the events between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, this book by Rebecca Roanhorse picks up straight after the climactic battle between the Resistance and the First Order on the planet of Crait.

The book starts with the survivors of the Resistance drawing plans to continue the fight against the First Order, and then Leia and Rey decide to move aside for a meeting of their own. The two then discuss Kylo Ren's decision to fully turn to the Dark Side, and though Leia's is filled with grief from all of the losses that she's had, she hasn't given up hope on her son just yet.

The conversation is long and detailed. Rey asks Leia about how her son had turned to the Dark Side, sharing the story that Luke had told her on Ahch-To. She then tells Leia about what happened to Ren after the battle with Snoke on the Supremacy.

"I thought I could help him, but he only wanted me to become like him," the Jakku Orphan tells Leia.

"Ben has made his choices," Leia explains, "No one can save Ben but himself. And I don't know if that is what he wants."

We're not quite sure either. But we're really hoping that like Darth Vader, Ben turns back to the light in Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
