Star Wars' next big screen offering isn't going to get released until late 2025 but the updates regarding the project have been abundant over the last couple of weeks. As it stands, still very little is known about the film being penned by Damon Lindelof but according to several sources, it will take place after the events of The Rise of Skywalker.

On a recent episode of The Hot Mic podcast, insider Jeff Sneider claimed that the post-Skywalker Saga project is eyeing a POC actor as the lead. "This is what I was getting at… So, I’ve heard that the lead of [Obaid-Chinoy and Lindelof’s Star Wars movie] will be a person of color, and likely – though this is not confirmed – from what I took from [the conversation], it was a man. Couldn’t get a name or anything like that."

Intriguingly, the tweet was deleted by Sneider but his follow-up reads (via Star Wars News Net): "UPDATE to yesterday's HOT MIC podcast. I had predicted Brian Tyree Henry would wind up the lead in a STAR WARS movie, and maybe he will, but for now, I've heard that the POC lead in Lindelof's movie is actually a woman, not a man as I'd originally been lead to believe. Any ideas?"

Following the insider's initial report, speculation ran high on social media that the POC character that is rumored to lead the next Star Wars film is none other than John Boyega's character Finn.

Of course, until Lucasfilm confirms anything, it's still best to take reports like these with a grain of salt but the idea of another female character, let alone a person of color leading the franchise's next era will definitely raise a number of eyebrows within the fandom. It would be safe to assume though that Lindelof and his team won't commit the same mistakes done during the sequel trilogy.
