Star Wars May Have Already Confirmed Rey Is A Skywalker

The title of Star Wars Episode IX certainly has people confused. The big question right now seems to be, who is the Skywalker being referred to in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? However, it looks like Star Wars has already confirmed that the title is referring to Rey.

There has been a lot of confusion about the name Skywalker. Technically, the origins of the surname can only be traced back to Anakin's mother Shmi Skywalker, who confirmed in The Phantom Menace that her son has no father because she somehow miraculously became pregnant one day. However, the name Skywalker also appears in a different civilization which holds it to high esteem.

In the novel Thrawn: Alliances, Grand Admiral Thrawn encounters Anakin Skywalker for the first time and makes the connection to his own people. In the Timothy Zahn book, Thrawn explains how the Chiss Ascendancy managed to navigate the Unknown Regions hyperspace: they used Force-sensitive children, referring to their gift as Third Sight. In addition to that, Thrawn revealed that the chosen children are exclusively girls (via ScreenRant).

"Those with the gift are nearly always female. There are exceptions, but that is the general rule. No one knows why," Thrawn said.

However, it gets interesting when Thrawn finally tells Darth Vader why he was bemused upon learning that there is a man named Anakin Skywalker.

"I told you the Chiss call this talent Third Sight. What I hadn't yet spoken of is the title these navigators are given once they take their posts... The Cheunh word is 'ozyly-esehembo'. In Basic, it translates to ‘sky-walker.' You can imagine my momentary confusion when I first encountered General Anakin Skywalker," Thrawn had said.

With that in mind, it sounds like the name Skywalker could only refer to one person at the present. After all, the Skywalkers who served the Chiss lead the people into safety using their gift. Interestingly, this could mean that "Skywalker" now has an entirely new meaning and it could only refer to Rey.

Find out if Rey truly is a real Skywalker in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which hits theaters on December 20.
