Lucasfilm film is more determined than ever to bring Star Wars back to the big screen and after several production setbacks, the production company has its sights set on releasing a new film in 2025.

During last month's Star Wars Celebration in London, it was confirmed that Daisy Ridley will return as Rey Skywalker in a new film centered on her establishing a new Jedi Order.

Last week, rumors started swirling all over the internet that Mark Hamill and Hayden Christensen will also be involved in the project and while nothing official has been set in stone, it was enough to send Star Wars diehards into a frenzy. But is there any truth to the reports?

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Hamill looked back on his storied Star Wars career which he thought would have culminated in 2017's The Last Jedi. He said: "When I read [Episode] VIII, I knew it was over. So I was relishing every moment, but also saying goodbye to all those people that I had associated with over the years. So I still miss them."

Of course, that wasn't the case and after TLJ, he'd make three more appearances in various projects, including The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett where co-created a younger version of Luke with the help of a stand-in actor and Lucasfilm's facial capture technology.

However, it appears that Hamill is determined to step away from the franchise, and this time for good. When asked about his potential involvement in the "New Jedi Order" film, the actor cast doubt on pulling Force Ghost duties, saying: "No, I don’t have any expectations of that happening."

Last week, Hamill made headlines after admitting that he doesn't want Lucasfilm to do more stories centered on a younger Luke, saying that if they really feel the need to explore more stories set in the New Republic era, he's ready to pass the baton to an "age-appropriate" actor.

As for him returning in the next Star Wars film, it's hard to buy into Hamill's claims because there's a strong chance he's only playing coy to avoid giving spoilers away. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Star Wars film is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2025.
