Star Wars: Was Mark Hamill NOT Involved in Luke Skywalker's The Book of Boba Fett Return?

There is little doubt that fans were loving it when Luke Skywalker showed up in The Book of Boba Fett. After all, it was great to catch up with the Jedi Master and see that he had been training Grogu so well. However, it looks like Mark Hamill had little to do with Luke's latest comeback. It has been revealed that the Star Wars legend did not record any new dialogue for the series!

In The Book of Boba Fett Episode 6, Din Djarin decided to check on Grogu and bring the child a present. However, he was advised by Ahsoka Tano that his presence could hinder Grogu's Jedi training. Still, we got to see how Luke Skywalker was teaching the child how to use the Force properly.

Although it was great to see a better version of the young Luke in The Book of Boba Fett, ILM Supervisor Richard Bluff revealed that they used two different actors to play the character.

"They effectively reproduced a de-aged version of Mark for the shots by combining the texture from his face and also [the body double's] younger face. The biggest challenge for this sequence was that we weren't de-aging Mark in every single shot, and we had a variety of performances that Lola had to work on, too," Bluff told Esquire.

He further revealed that they managed to use Hamill's voice from archival footage to recreate the younger Luke's voice.

"It's a neural network you feed information into and it learns. So I had archival material from Mark in that era. We had clean recorded ADR from the original films, a book on tape he'd done from those eras, and then also Star Wars radio plays he had done back in that time. I was able to get clean recordings of that, feed it into the system, and they were able to slice it up and feed their neural network to learn this data," Bluff said.

So was Mark Hamill even involved in Luke's latest return? It was confirmed that the Star Wars: The Last Jedi actor was present on set. However, it was the stunt and body double who did most of the hard work.

The Book of Boba Fett Episode 6 is now streaming on Disney+.
