Long before Hollywood's efforts at inclusivity, the Star Wars franchise has already championed a number of LGBTQ+ characters through various media. But what if we told you that the franchise's one and only poster boy Luke Skywalker could actually be part of the community?

Well, actor Mark Hamill himself somewhat confirmed Luke's LGBTQ+ status and there's a good chance a lot of you aren't aware of it.

In a 2016 interview originally published by Vanity Fair, the screen legend said that fans have come up to him asking about Luke's potential sexual identity and his answer may not come as a surprise.

Hamill said that Luke is gay if the audience is convinced that he is, urging fans to embrace the prospect and judge the character by his values and what he stands for.

He said: "Fans are writing and ask all these questions, ‘I’m bullied in school… I’m afraid to come out.’ They say to me, ‘Could Luke be gay?’ I’d say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer… If you think Luke is gay, of course he is. You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves."

The said interview resurfaced following The Mandalorian star Emily Swallow's controversial disapproval of a romance plot between her character The Armorer and Bo-Katan Kryze who are obviously both cisgender women.

According to Swallow, she's not open to the idea of her character becoming romantically involved with Bo-Katan or any other character for that matter. Her statement would put her under fire from fans who thought she was disgusted with the idea.
