Daisy Ridley's epic return to Star Wars has been generating a tremendous amount of buzz since its announcement in April and while some fans are still on the fence about it, many remain optimistic that the next film helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will remove the bitter taste the sequel trilogy left in the mouths of fans.

As it stands, key details surrounding the "New Jedi Order" film have remained scarce but according to the latest rumors, Rey's journey will be heavily influenced by her mentor Luke Skywalker.

Now, Lucasfilm pretty much revealed what fans can expect from the 2026 project, confirming the Jedi Master's presence as Rey establishes a new galactic order.

Speaking with GamesRadar+ about the highly anticipated sequel trilogy follow-up, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy teased the New Jedi Order film's central core and how it will move the franchise to the "next chapter".

She explains: "I think what’s always great about Star Wars is it’s a big galaxy, and we’re coming off what was a major war with the First Order. And now, Rey has made a promise to Luke and that’s really the core of where we’re going and what this story will be."

Kennedy also teased the introduction of new characters and how the next will allows Star Wars to start fresh. She added: "And I think it offers just tremendous opportunity to introduce new characters and start with something fresh, because we culminated with what George [Lucas] was creating, and now we take all of that and move it to the next chapter."

Rumor has it that both Luke and Anakin Skywalker will play an integral part in the next film although Mark Hamill himself has already dismissed his potential cameo appearance.

Of course, there's always a good chance that he's just trying to play it coy because we all know the level of secrecy that goes into these projects.

Daisy Ridley's next Star Wars film is now eyeing a May 2026 theatrical release.
