Star Wars Legend Mark Hamill Spoils His Role In The Rise Of Skywalker

There's a lot riding on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Not only is the film going to close the curtain on Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy, but it's also going to culminate the entire Skywalker saga, putting an end to 40 years of the Star Wars franchise.

It definitely comes as no surprise then to see Lucasfilm being extra protective of the film. However, despite the studio's efforts at keeping The Rise of Skywalker's secrets under wraps, it seems like a few spoilers still manage to make their way to the public – this time thanks to Star Wars legend Mark Hamill.

Hamill just recently spoke in an interview with The Associated Press, and during his discussion with the publication, the actor was asked whether The Rise of Skywalker was really, really going to be his last Star Wars movie.

"I sure hope so," Hamill replied.

AP then asks him to explain why he seems so eager to see his part in the franchise come to an end, and so the Star Wars legend looks right into the camera and smiles.

"Well, because…I had closure in the last one. The fact that I'm involved in any capacity is only because of that peculiar aspect of the Star Wars mythology where if you're a Jedi, you get to come back and make a curtain call as a Force Ghost," Hamill reveals.

So there you have it. Hamill really is coming back as a Force Ghost. When Lucasfilm confirmed his return to the franchise, some suspected that the studio might use Luke Skywalker in a flashback sequence. Others guessed he would appear as a Force Ghost.

But now we have word from the man himself. Unless, of course, he's playing with us again.

Let's wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
