YouTuber TheEricButts recorded himself having an emotional reaction while watching the first trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and following the release of the video, some viewers mocked Butts for crying in the video.
The video, uploaded on April 13, is titled REACTION! Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker – Teaser Trailer #1 – Daisy Ridley Movie 2019, and at the time of this writing, the video has over 353,000+ views with 19,000+ likes and 15,000+ dislikes on YouTube. You can watch the video below:
On April 13, Twitter user @handovertheBR55 shared a re-upload of the video, calling Butts a "soybag".
On April 14, Twitter user @stclairashley shared the video, saying that "Star Wars and super hero movie obsession culture has revealed a whole new population of undateable men" to which entrepreneur Sam Hullick responded with "don't be jealous because your soulless carcass is unable to achieve anywhere near the level of passion and pure joy this guy can."
On April 15, Star Wars actor Mark Hamill defended Butts and responded to the @handovertheBR55 tweet, saying, "Why would anyone ridicule someone so passionate & clearly enjoying what he's seeing is beyond me." Butts thanked Hamill and linked to his original video, to which Hamill replied with a reaction GIF of himself portraying Luke Skywalker.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to release in theaters on December 20, 2019.
