Star Wars Legend Frank Oz Defends Yoda In The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have been a major commercial and critical success for Lucasfilm, however, the film became one of the most divisive entries in the franchise. Traditional fans of the franchise weren't so happy with the way the film subverted fan expectations, nor were they keen on the way the film turned Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) into a jaded old hermit hiding on the planet of Ahch-To.

Even Yoda's appearance was a point of discussion among fans. Now, taking to social media, legendary Yoda voice actor Frank Oz has decided to defend his character's role in The last Jedi, explaining why the Jedi Grand Master did what he did in the polarizing Star Wars movie.

Oz's post came in response to a Star Wars fan who decided to post a still from his favorite scene in The Last Jedi where Yoda and Luke sit down together and watch the home of the sacred Jedi texts burn to the ground. Others didn't quite agree with the tweet, saying Yoda was out of character in the film.

"I kind of have pretty intimate knowledge of who Yoda is, and I don't feel it was out of character at all," Oz told the fan.

It's hard to argue with Oz – after all, he's the one who's given life to Yoda for some many years. Oz should be more familiar with the inner workings of Yoda's character than anyone else.

Besides, Yoda has at times been a playful kook. He was always making fun of Luke in The Empire Strikes Back.

What do you think of Yoda's scene in TLJ? Was it out of character? Or do you agree with Oz?
