There is little doubt that people are still mourning the unexpected death of Carrie Fisher back in 2016 and some are hoping that the Star Wars: The Last Jedi actress will be honored for her lasting contribution to cinematic history. Unfortunately, it looks like Fisher will not be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame so soon. It has been revealed that the late Star Wars icon is not eligible for a star until 2021.
It was previously reported that Fisher's longtime Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill is pushing for Donald Trump's Walk of Fame star to be altered or replaced by the late actress. However, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which administers the Walk of Fame, has stated that Trump's star cannot be removed.
"We don't remove stars," chamber spokeswoman Ana Martinez told the Los Angeles Times. "The stars are part of the history of the Walk of Fame."
Martinez also addressed the possibility of Fisher getting her own star and how long it will take before the late actress is eligible.
"We would love for Carrie Fisher to have a star, but the application has to be submitted on the fifth anniversary of her death," Martinez explained. "Also, how do we know that Carrie Fisher wanted one? We don't know if she ever was interested. She was never submitted for a star."
Nevertheless, it is possible for Fisher to get the star by 2021 as long as her family approves of it.
"We have to have something in writing from the person --they have to sign off. [In this case,] her family would have to do that," Martinez said. "We'll gladly take the application on the fifth anniversary."
Some fans are already planning to start a fundraiser to buy a star on the Walk of Fame for Fisher.
Fisher is still expected to return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which premieres on December 20.
