A number of Star Wars fans weren't pleased with the fact that The Rise of Skywalker killed off Adam Driver's Kylo Ren. The character met his tragic fate in the midst of defeating Emperor Palpatine and used the Force to revive Rey. However, some fans have wondered what Ben Solo's fate could have been in Colin Trevorrow's version of the film, and it looks like the stories aren't far off from each other.

A Redditor recently shared a photo on the site which shows that Trevorrow liked a fan's tweet regarding his version's ending of the story, seemingly confirming that Ben Solo was redeemed at the end by Rey. However, like in The Rise of Skywalker, the character also dies, "with the light in his eyes."

Colin Trevorrow confirms that his version of Episode IX - "Duel of the Fates" - would have had "Kylo Ren redeemed at the very end by Rey. He dies with the light in his eyes."

Unfortunately, to the fans' disappointment, either story would have still chosen to kill the character. Aside from being a fan-favorite, some weren't fond of the idea that the movie basically killed the last Skywalker and weren't given a chance to learn more about Ben Solo.

Despite its success in the box office, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker seems to be one of the most controversial Star Wars films released to date. The movie is quite divisive among fans, and is seen as something that has backpedaled its predecessor and made a story catered to the fans' wishes.
