Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might have been a pretty important film, however, the third and final episode in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy didn't take itself too seriously, cracking jokes whenever it could on the big screen. Now, we've learned that some of C-3PO's golden quips come from an outside source – Sonic the Hedgehog actor Ben Schwartz.
The comedian who is best known for playing Jean-Ralphio in Parks and Recreation just recently appeared on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!to help promote his new movie Sonic the Hedgehog, and during his interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Schwartz got to talking about his unique role in The Rise of Skywalker.
Schwartz got a special mention in Episode IX because he had been asked by director J.J. Abrams to come around to write a few jokes for C-3PO, and it looks like the comedian gave the droid some of his best lines.
"I got a special thanks in Episode IX. I wrote a couple of jokes for C-3PO," Schwartz told the late-night show host, "It happened because the movie was done and [director] JJ [Abrams] asked if I could come by and maybe see if I could punch up some stuff. He's been an incredible influence."
Apparently Abrams and Schwartz had gotten close because they had worked on a TV pilot together at some point, and so when Abrams was writing The Rise of Skywalker, the filmmaker had the comedian come down to help add some jokes for C-3PO.
"I got like four or five [in the movie]," he added. "One of them is when they come down through the sandpits and they look around and say 'Are you okay? Are you okay?' And nobody says C-3PO and C-3PO comes to through the back and says, 'Nobody said my name but I'm okay!'"
Interestingly enough, Schwartz also had a hand in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, working as a "voice consultant" for the adorable BB-8.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is currently screening in cinemas.
