Star Wars' Jon Favreau Teases Familiar Droid Appearing in The Mandalorian

Even though Star Wars: The Last Jedi received a mixed reception, there is still a lot of hype for The Mandalorian, the first Star Wars Disney+ series. Fans are eager to meet some of the new characters introduced in this series, though the nostalgic are also wondering if characters from the classic series will be making an appearance.

Well, Jon Favreau went to Instagram and teased a classic character for the series, though it isn't the character many were expecting. As fans can see below, R5-D4 is being teased and that could please those that love obscure Star Wars lore. At least it isn't a basic use of well-known characters like Luke Skywalker or Han Solo.

Fans will remember how R5-D4 was originally the droid that was supposed to help Luke out on the moisture farm of his uncle Owen. However, the droid broke down and Luke ended up buying R2-D2, which eventually led to him becoming a legendary Jedi. Though not seen as too important by those that have only seen the movies, fans of the extended universe know that R5-D4 is a little more important.

How this broken-down droid will be used in The Mandalorian is going to be interesting, with many of us wondering if its appearance will tie-in to the movies somehow. Considering how this series is set after the downfall of The Empire, this could be very interesting.

The Mandalorian has no definite release date yet, though it will be a part of the Disney+ streaming service coming out soon.
