Star Wars: It Wasn't Just Luke, Yoda Also Wanted to End The Jedi

When fans watched Star Wars: The Last Jedi, many were shocked to see Luke Skywalker be so dark and negative. The character lost all of his optimism and even felt that the Jedi should be no more after his actions that led to Ben Solo becoming Kylo-Ren. However, it turns out Luke isn't the only Jedi to feel this way since Star Wars: Age of Rebellion Special #1 revealed that Yoda felt the same way.

Set before The Empire Strikes Back, the story has Yoda in self-imposed exile post-Revenge of the Sith. As he lived alone, the Jedi Master actually wished the remaining Jedi would renounce their ways and that The Jedi Order would disband. He felt that they allowed The Empire and Sith to become more powerful, breaking the balance of The Force.

He sounds a lot like Luke did in The Last Jedi, doesn't he?

Later on in Degobah, Yoda ventures into a cave but stumbles and falls. This leads to him experiencing PTSD as the Jedi Master envisions another battle with his former pupil Count Dooku. It's yet another example of The Jedi way failing and further adds to his reasons for being a recluse.

However, Luke Skywalker soon appears and Yoda looks at him as "A New Hope." He soon takes him as his apprentice and hopes this Jedi won't become "The Last Jedi." Wordplay.
