Star Wars is Finally Going to Address Luke’s Blue Lightsaber Plot Hole

It might seem right to see Luke Skywalker's blue lightsaber in Rey's hands, however, the question of how it arrived in the Jakku Orphan's possession has become one of the biggest plot holes in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy.

Fans have been wondering whether Star Wars might ever address the question before the saga ends with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and though Lucasfilm's never explicitly given response, it seems like a new comic might help explain the blue lightsaber's journey.

Marvel has just begun a new chapter in its ongoing Star Wars comic with Star Wrs#1 set for release in January next year, and according to Screen Rant, the comic is going to help fill in the gaps in the movie timeline by showing fans what happened right after the end of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

In the Star Wars comic book series' very first issue, readers get to see Luke return to Cloud City to retrieve an item that he had lost. Though the synopsis for Star Wars#1 doesn't explicitly name the item as Luke's blue lightsaber, everyone's hoping that this story might be the missing piece that fans have been waiting for.

Check out the synopsis down here:

The end of the war and the final defeat of the REBEL ALLIANCE are inevitable as the cunning IMPERIAL COMMANDER ZAHRA unleashes her fury against the splintered and scattered survivors. But where have the Rebellion's greatest heroes gone when their cause needs them the most? LUKE SKYWALKER'S only hope at becoming a JEDI KNIGHT was lost during his battle with DARTH VADER…and so he, PRINCESS LEIA and LANDO CALRISSIAN must return to CLOUD CITY to find it! But Leia has her own covert mission to accomplish there…and Lando's mysterious reason for returning could very well ruin their only chance at success!

Star Wars #1 might not reveal everything about the blue lightsaber's journey, but at least it might help solve the puzzle that has long since stumped the fanbase. Star Wars: The Force Awakens might have revealed the weapon to be in the possession of Maz Kanata, however, the film never really explained how it ended up with the character. Star Wars: The Last Jedi didn't give any follow-up either. We're hoping that Star Wars #1 does.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
