Star Wars Introduces Unlikely Hero Who ALMOST Killed Darth Vader

It's hard to imagine what Star Wars would be like if Darth Vader wasn't around to do the Emperor's bidding. However, a new comic book may have revealed that the Sith Lord had a close call and was almost killed by a truly unlikely hero.

In Vader: Dark Visions #4, we meet a young Rebel pilot simply known as Kid. Like most of the stories written by Dennis 'Hopeless' Hallum, Kid has a strange connection to Darth Vader. As the son of a smuggler, he once encountered the Sith Lord and froze up although he had the perfect shot. Unfortunately, the error led to Kid's father being killed.

Amazingly, Kid didn't let that stop him. He went on to join the Rebels and became one of the Rebellion's greatest pilots. However, the fear of Darth Vader never left him.

In the comics, Kid gets another chance to face Darth Vader again, this time from inside the cockpit of an X-Wing. His commanding officer sets him up for the kill, sacrificing herself so he could take the perfect shot at Vader's TIE Fighter. But does he have what it takes to shoot down the Emperor's apprentice? Unfortunately, he doesn't.

In the end, Kid isn't the only one who becomes a victim of his own cowardice. He unwittingly leads Vader back to their outpost, which is completely obliterated. So although Kid had all the luck, he simply didn't have the courage to kill Darth Vader.

The synopsis for Dark Visions #4 reads as follows:

"Darth Vader is the Empire's most powerful warrior, mercilessly enforcing peace and order throughout the galaxy. Killer, monster, savior—what is the true legacy that the Dark Lord has left behind for those unfortunate enough to cross his deadly and destructive path?"
