Star Wars fans were met with exciting news this week when Lucasfilm decided to pull back the curtain on its mysterious Project Luminous, revealing Star Wars: The High Republic, a new series of interconnected books, novels, and comics.
While everyone's excited to see the "golden age of the Jedi" in Lucasfilm's brand new publishing series, it seems like the studio isn't interested in producing movies and television series based on The High Republic. According to Comic Book Movie, Lucasfilm issued a press release right after the big Project Luminous reveal, clarifying that "this period in the Star Wars timeline will not overlap with any of the films or series currently planned for production, giving creators and partners space to tell Star Wars stories in a never-before-explored timeline."
This means that fans should probably expect a different timeline for all the other movies that Lucasfilm is going to develop for the Star Wars franchise. While it's definitely a shame that we won't get to see the High Republic on the big or the small screen, this method allows Lucasfilm to explore all sorts of timelines and stories in the galaxy far, far away.
While Star Wars: The High Republic is going to take fans 200 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Lucasfilm's film franchise could explore a time after Disney's sequel trilogy. Or it could go even way before the events of The High Republic.
Let's just wait and see what the studio has planned for Star Wars movies.
Star Wars: The High Republic is set to begin in August during Star Wars Celebration.
