Chewbacca is one of the fan-favorite characters in the Star Wars franchise. The Wookiee loves to play Dejarik just as much as Star Wars fans love him. This particular trait was seen once again in The Rise of Skywalker where Poe and Finn accuse Chewie of cheating in the game. And now, actor Joonas Suotamo reveals why the character really needs to win that game.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Suotamo was asked if Chewbacca did cheat in holochess. "Well over the years, Chewie has found that winning at that game proves to everyone that you rule the Falcon and all its gadgets," he said. The actor reveals that this is the sole reason as to why it's crucial that Chewbacca wins the game. That being said, he did not mention a direct answer of yes or no. "I'll let that be my final word on the subject," Soutamo said.
Regardless if he cheated or not, it is known by Star Wars fans that the best thing to do is to just "let the Wookiee win." Just like what C-3PO advised R2-D2 to do in A New Hope. This scene added a really cool touch by giving that nostalgic feeling from the original trilogy.
On another note, fans really liked Suotamo's performance in The Rise of Skywalker, most especially his scene where he found out about Leia's passing. The actor revealed to the outlet that he was a "nervous wreck underneath the mask" because he wanted it to be "perfect." He knew that the scene was an important part of the film. "It was agonizing to deal with that situation because you were essentially living the actual reality of it ā that Carrie had passed ā and now we were shooting the scene where her character passes," he added. "It was a very emotional day, and watching it is still very emotional for me."
