Star Wars: Gina Carano's Rangers of the New Republic Series Reportedly Cancelled

It has been some time since we got any updates on Rangers of the New Republic. After all, the Mandalorian spin-off series had been sidelined after Gina Carano was removed from the original show. However, it looks like the planned project has been taken off the table. A new report points out that the series that would focus on Carano's Cara Dune has finally been cancelled.

Back in May, it was reported that Rangers of the New Republic is not yet in active development. This was just a few months after the series was announced which was then followed by Gina Carano being fired from The Mandalorian.

So how has the development process been going so far? It looks like they didn't get too far. In fact, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told Empire magazine that they didn't even get started on it.

We'd never written any scripts or anything on that," Kennedy said about Rangers of the New Republic. She then pointed out that any ideas would have to be used in the original show.

"Some of that will figure into future episodes, I'm sure, of Mandalorian," Kennedy stated.

This isn't exactly the kind of update that people were hoping for. After all, fans have been hoping that Rangers of the New Republic will keep Cara Dune in the Star Wars Universe despite Gina Carano being fired from The Mandalorian. However, things are not looking good for the project and that probably means Cara will not get her own show after all.

The Mandalorian Season 3 is set to air on Disney+ sometime in late 2022. It is still unclear whether Gina Carano will return as Cara Dune in the series. In the meantime, the next Star Wars show is The Book of Boba Fett, which premieres on the streaming service on December 29, 2021.
