Star Wars Games’ Shadowtroopers To Appear In Rogue One?

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story could be including a popular Star Wars character seen in video games of the franchise.

The extended Star Wars Universe literally contains tens of thousands of different characters purposely removed from the canon to make more working space for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, ideas can be hard to come by at some point, therefore creators of future Star Wars films may need to include characters that we've already seen before.

One such character is the shadowtrooper from EA's Star Wars Battlefront.

The character is rumored to appear in Rogue One after the name "Shadow Trooper" was included in a new trademark filing for product merchandising from Lucasfilm, according to TMZ. Incidentally, several movie franchise spoilers from the past have also come from these filings.

It's worth noting that shadowtroopers are playable characters in Battlefront. Basically, shadowtroopers are black versions of the classic white stormtrooper. The name shadowtrooper had also been used several times in the Jedi Knight video games as lightsaber-wielding troopers who are able to use the dark side of the Force. Coincidentally, the games also included a character named Kyle Katarn, who's tangled in plans to steal the original Death Star.

If these speculations turn out to be true, then it would support a report we've seen a few days ago of a new Rogue One footage from the Disney stockholders meeting which featured the shadowtroopers. At the time, the black stormtroopers had been referred to as Death Troopers.

The listing is certainly intriguing and it would be interesting to see shadowtroopers coming face to face with the characters in Rogue One. Right now though, much remains unknown about the film. We're still waiting for a trailer to come out.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is slated for release on December 16.
