There is little doubt that one of the best things about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was the surprise cameo from several Jedi who helped Rey gather her strength to ultimately defeat Emperor Palpatine. But what was it like to return as a character who has already been killed off in Star Wars Rebels? Freddie Prinze Jr. discussed his brief appearance as Kanan Jarrus in Episode IX.
Prinze recently spoke to IGN about his cameo in The Rise of Skywalker and he admitted that Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni didn't have to try too hard to convince him to return as Kanan.
"I was like, yeah, whatever you guys need. I always like to do that. And they were like, ‘okay, but this one might be a little different,'" Prinze said. "And so right away I was like, ‘Oh, it's for the movie!'"
But was there ever a chance that Prinze would actually portray Kanan in the flesh? He was quick to point out that although the idea was considered, director J.J. Abrams only asked him and the other actors to provide their voices.
"JJ came in and kind of broke down the scene, and what was happening, and what was going on with Rey and what she was needing from the Jedi at that point, because the Force provides you with what you need - not the Jedi per se, it's the Force kind of dictating that," Prinze said.
Well, we weren't exactly expecting too many Force ghosts to show up in The Rise of Skywalker. Nevertheless, we loved the idea that Kanan and several former Jedi showed up to help Rey at her time of need.
