Star Wars 'Force Balance' Theory Answers Decade-Old Mystery

Force Ghosts may have appeared in the Skywalker saga even during the Star Wars original trilogy, however, there's still a lot of questions surrounding the Star Wars phenomenon.

Do all Jedi turn into Force Ghosts? What are the capabilities of a Force Ghost? Are Force Ghosts omnipresent? How does a Jedi become a Force Ghost?

An interesting fan theory on Reddit tries to respond to one of the most prominent questions about Force Ghosts in the original trilogy - Why was Anakin able to become a Force Ghost at the end of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi even though he wasn't taught how too?

According to Redditor u/reelfilmosopher, the answer lays in balance in the Force. The theory posits that the Light Side and Dark Side don't really make up the Balance in the Force. Instead, balance is brought out by the Cosmic Force and the Living Force – two concepts detailed in the episode "Voices" in the sixth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

In the episode, Yoda senses Qui-Gon Jinn's presence. The Force Ghost explains to Yoda how the Cosmic Force and Living Force intermingle even after death, allowing him to communicate with the living through midi-chlorians.

These midi-chlorians may be the reason why Anakin Skywalker was able to become a Force Ghost even though he had no knowledge of how to become one because of his allegiance with the Sith.

It's an interesting fan theory, to say the least. Most of the time, when we think of balance in the Force, we think of the balance between the Light Side and the Dark Side. However, it seems like Balance in the Force refers to entirely different concepts.
