Star Wars Fans Believe That Richard Grant Is Teasing A Thrawn Role In Episode IX

It might seem like a stretch, but Star Wars fans seem to believe that Grand Admiral Thrawn just might make his way out of Star Wars legends on to the big screen in Star Wars: Episode IX.

There was a lot of excitement when Lucasfilm announced the casting of its third and final installment in its Star Wars sequel trilogy, mostly because it confirmed the return of Billy Dee William's Lando Calrissian and the return of the late Carrie Fisher's General Leia Organa. However, the announcement also featured a few newcomers to the Star Wars franchise, one of which included the actor Richard E. Grant.

Though Grant's role has yet to be confirmed, fans immediately started comparing the actor to one of the most popular Star Wars Legends characters – Thrawn. Taking to Twitter to point out their comparisons, fans tried to get attention from Grant himself. One even got a like from the actor himself, fuelling even more speculation that he's in line to play Thrawn.

Of course, as interesting as having Thrawn in Episode IX is, fans just might be reaching too hard, hoping that the Grand Admiral will be appearing in The Last Jedi's sequel. Sure Grant does have a few facial features similar to Thrawn, but honestly, a like could mean anything. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theatres December 20, 2019.
