While there have been multiple interpretations of the prophecy of the Chosen One in the Star Wars franchise, most fans have come to agree that in the end, Anakin (Hayden Christensen) was the one who brought balance to the Force when he sent Darth Sidious plummeting to his death in Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker shook that consensus when the film revealed that Palpatine had managed to survive the fall from the Death Star. Palpatine was alive. Does this mean that Anakin failed to bring balance to the Force? Does this make Rey (Daisy Ridley) the chosen one instead?
A new theory posted on Reddit continues to insist that Anakin fulfilled the prophecy of the Chosen One, positing that the Jedi was meant to bring balance to the Force not by putting an end to Palpatine and his Empire, but by becoming the Father on Mortis that keeps the Light and Dark Sides in check.
To the uninitiated, the concept of Mortis was introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. In the series, fans get to see Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka transported to an ethereal realm that was supposedly a conduit of the Force. There, the group encountered three different metaphysical manifestations of the Force called the Father, the Daughter, and the Son.
While the Daughter is guided by love and compassion, the Son is driven by the desire to leave Mortis to dominate the galaxy. The Father is in charge of maintaining the balance between the two.
As interesting as it is to see Anakin as the Father, we've never really seen Anakin take on the position. The character didn't have that much time to live his life as a Jedi after redeeming himself from his role as Darth Vader because Anakin died minutes after killing Palpatine.
