Lucasfilm might have revealed very little about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, however, in one of the trailers for the film, the studio teases an important sequence between Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) and Rey (Daisy Ridley). In one of the teasers, fans get to see Leia and Rey hugging each other, seemingly comforting each other in a jungle planet.
Now, taking to Reddit, a Star Wars fan tries to decipher the sequence. Taking note of the short scene between Leia and Rey, this Star Wars fan notes that Leia is the one holding the medal in the sequence. The fan notes a scene towards the very end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens which could have been the original source for the footage between Rey and Leia – in this scene in Episode VII we see Leia gazing downwards at something in her hands. In the original scene, Leia was feeling devastated by the death of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) at the hands of her son, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).
"Since we know most, if not all, material for Leia's appearance in TROS will be taken from TFA, could it be that this scene, which happens after R2D2 comes back to life and shows Leia silently mourning Han Solo while looking down, might have originally been Leia looking at the medal?" the Star Wars fan openly wonders.
According to the post, the scene must have been cut because it must have been strange to see Leia having a medal lying around in the sequence.
If the sequence isn't from The Force Awakens, then it could have been taken from a deleted scene in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, though the fan thinks that it seems highly unlikely.
We can't wait to see what kind of story The Rise of Skywalker has for Leia.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
