Ewan McGregor has already made a name for himself playing memorable characters in his long career. However, most fans still see him as young Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Star Wars prequel films. Not surprisingly, McGregor is proud of what he has done in the past and fondly looks back at the prequel movies all the time.
McGregor is currently promoting his latest film Doctor Sleep but he still takes time to discuss his upcoming return as the Jedi Master in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. He was recently a guest on Conan where he revealed that the most satisfying thing about working on Star Wars has a lot to do with who previously played his character.
"The most satisfying thing about those films, other than some of the fight sequences — which were amazing to do — was the study of Alec Guinness and trying to be believably him as a younger man. As an acting challenge, that was the most satisfying thing about those movies," McGregor said.
Who wouldn't want to learn from the legendary Alec Guinness, anyway? McGregor went on to explain that he is now getting ready to play the Obi-Wan that is closer to the one Guinness portrayed and is looking forward to all the possibilities.
"And so now, that's the same, except I'm just closer to the age he was when he played that film. So it'll be interesting to play him now. And also, it being post — plot wise, [after] the three films that I made already — it's after that, obviously. So there's a bit of story, plot there," he said.
We're definitely looking forward to the new Disney+ series since it will explore Obi-Wan's life as a hermit keeping an eye on Luke Skywalker. Needless to say, it's going to be an exciting show.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series has not yet been given an official release date. In the meantime, you can catch McGregor in Doctor Sleep, which is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
